Children can teach us quite a bit regarding user interface and design, especially with regard to 3D virtual worlds.  I have been researching and prototyping direct manipulation (coined “immersive touch”) 3D virtual environments for many years now & direct manipulation certainly proves to be more intuitive for kids.  The key points to a “menu-less” environment rely’s on intuitive interaction (doing things in the virtual world as you would do them in the real world) - some of which are difficult to replicate (walking for example).  As “immersive touch” continues to evolve - many of these limitation will be overcome with intuitive design methods.
